2. Tell me about the different types of conditions you've handled and the different types of equipment you've used. Have you done lifts and transfers by yourself or with assistance from another person?

Conditions: dementia, stroke, cancer, diabetes, seizures, wheelchair-bound, bed-bound; Showers, bed bath, perineal care male and female

3. Why did you get into the healthcare field in the first place?

(Passionate about seniors, want to give back, love providing care and helping, etc.)

4.When thinking about quality of care for seniors, what approaches, techniques or ways of working with them do you think is important?  How do you interact with seniors?

(Dignity, respect, honesty, communication, active listening, holistic approach)

6. Do you have any experience with palliative care and end of life care? How many years? How comfortable are you working with someone who is dying on a scale of 1-10?

7. If you were working with a Client who had only a few days left to live, what type of care would you provide? What do you think is important to do with them and observe?

(Comfort care, turning to avoid bedsores, speak softly and calmly, don't force to eat, wet lips with ice chips or wet cloth)

8. Tell me about your experience and the number of years you have worked with clients who have Dementia/Alzheimers? What stages?

4 years with mild dementia

Experience with:  aggression verbal, confusion of time/day

9. What do you think is the most difficult aspect of working with someone with dementia and how did you handle?

Not taking the medication – communicate

10. If you are working with a client with Dementia and they are agitated and refusing to have a bath, how would you deal with this situation? What other creative ways would you use if they still refuse after trying again?

(Play soothing music, make it spa-like environment, sponge bath, make them feel the water first, offer reward, inform them family is visiting)

Explain the need of the bath remind again and again

11. If you are working with a client with Dementia who calls you names on a regular basis like prostitute, stupid, thief, etc., and constantly tells you to leave, how would you handle this? Would you be comfortable going back and working with this Client on a regular basis?

(Don't take personally, be firm and remind them you are there to help so no need to call names, understand that it's the disease, etc.)

Physical: walks, exercises

13. A lot of seniors are withdrawn and refuse to do any type of activity because they don't see the point and feel hopeless. What creative ways/techniques would you use to convince them to do an activity with you?

(Find out their interests, do it first and show them how, get them excited about it, talk about advantages, establish rapport first, etc.)

14. What is the most difficult situation you've ever encountered with a Client and how did you handle it?

Client with hallucinations at night, talked to him

15. Has there been a time in your life when issues or problems in your personal life affected your work or stopped you from going to work? What are some things you do to help you cope with stress?

(Exercise, family/friends, deep breathing, music, etc.)
