I've been waiting for some answers from my contacts, and I've had a few technological issues in the last 2 weeks (I've had 4 cell phones in 2 weeks, long story). Yesterday's announcement of the appointment of Genevi=C3=A8ve Biron as head= of Sant=C3=A9 Qu=C3=A9bec also confirms the creation of Sant=C3=A9 Qu=C3=A9bec= . The Ministry of Health has mandated Sant=C3=A9 Qu=C3=A9bec to put an end to the use of agen= cy personnel in the healthcare network by October 2024. My contacts confirm that, for the moment, everything is on hold regarding calls for tender for agency staff. A call for tenders was scheduled for May 2024 (in a few days' time), but has been cancelled while they wait to see what Sant=C3=A9 Qu=C3=A9bec wants to do. We all agree (my contacts and I) that it's impossible to put an end to agency staff in the healthcare network. Obviously, the people at the top of the Ministry of Health have this great philosophy, which makes sense from a citizen's point of view and therefore from a "vote" point of view for the next elections. But at the operational level, this means countless service cuts. Moreover, it's wrong to think that agency staff will automatically go to work as salaried employees for the CIUSSS.
