He wanted to share feedback but was too emotional to do it via a phone call. David shared that he has been trying to put together a text message to me for most of the day. This is the text message I received from David yesterday evening. *Hello Malin, * *I received the news that Dad passed away this morning at around 5:45am. My family and I thank The Key for the care, support and dignity for Dad and us. I met only Ella, though there were others caring for Dad on shifts I did not visit him. If I were to personally select a person of character to be with Dad at this time it would have been Ella. She understood Dad's inner experience and did not oppose him when he was flailing in pain. She provided a safe way for him to discharge that energy until it quickly passed. Ella, without realizing it, educated me in 10 minutes on the usual course of dementia and where Dad was on that continuum. No medical professional over the past five years had done so , other than to describe his symptoms and prescribe treatments. * *Dad's hospital stay leading up to enlisting your services were chaotic and dismissive, however every interaction with The Key provided the understanding and support needed by Dad and his family, and in his last days, Dad had that caring when it most mattered. Thank you....David and Jerry Meyers. * Our time with the Meyers family was brief but the impact is long lasting. Hospital discharges with hospice does not always make sense on paper from a business perspective. My hospice social work heart is proud of the hard work of our team so that Alvin did not have to pass away in the hospital...all he wanted was to return to his apartment. Kudos team on a job well done when it "most mattered".
