There are several steps when it comes to the caregiver hiring process: =E2=80=8B We are going to focus on what are probably the two most important steps to make great caregiver hires with high retention, but with an added twist. *1. **Telephone Pre-Screen* a. The goals of the pre-screen is to: i. Verify information on resume/application ii. Identify experience and skill level =E2=80=93 does the applicant meet basic qualifications for your= office? iii. Determine if applicant has passion for senior care and ability to communicate with older adults iv. Sell them on the benefits of working for HCA v. Identify availability =E2=80= =93 hourly or live-in vi. Verify credentials and licenses (state specific) vii. Verify expected pay rate, transportation, and location match viii. Set up for in-person interview or respectfully turn away *2. **In-Person Interview* a. There are several steps to cover during the in-person interview. i. The Warm-up ii. Verify Pre-Screen Information iii. Work Experience iv. Personal Characteristics v. Skilled Related Questions vi. Availability and Preferences vii. Personality So if you are saying to yourself, I cover all of those areas during the pre-screen and the in-person interviews, here is your twist=E2=80=A6 you ha= ve to really probe during the interview to truly understand the person beyond what you have covered with the surface questions. There are five keys to probing during the interview: 1. Clarify what they said 2. Get more details 3. Get his/her feelings or thoughts 4. Ask about variations 5. Ask about opposite situations Steve Darley, franchise owner in Toronto, will be joining us on the call to share his expertise on the hiring process. Prior to HCA, Steve was a high level direct hire recruiter; his income depended on making the right candidate/client match and his interviewing techniques were the basis to making this happen. Together, Steve and I will share some great tips on the above topics and demonstrate how to use probing questions through a live role play so you can how he effectively performs a caregiver interview. If you have struggled with hiring great caregivers and keeping them around, then this is the call for you. *Please join us on Friday, June 10th at 10AM Pacific, 1PM Eastern*.
