Caregivers fall under a different category in Alberta than regular employment. Basic Rules in Alberta: 1) For shifts less than 24 hours in length, overtime is paid for hours worked in excess of 12 hours a day or 264 hours in a work month, whichever is greater. 2) For shifts 24 hours in length, overtime is paid for hours worked in excess of 264 hours in a work month. I was wondering if the same type of exemption exists for caregivers in Manitoba. Do you have any other documentation regarding caregivers and Manitoba labour laws? The first step for lowering our OT is to fully understand the Manitoba law. If you have anything else please let me know. If not I can do some extra digging to see if caregivers have an exemption.
