Y Client Narrative: Rick had a stroke many years ago that left him very unstable on his own. He has PT/OT in the home and some services through Ohio Health. Rick truly only needs assistance with meal prep and transfers- respite for his wife Carol so she can be free to take care of her everyday life routines. The Ohio Health team takes care of his bathing. The Caregiver should be prepared for sitting without much to do in between transfers but will need to be engaging with Rick. He is unable to speak but has great non-verbal communication. He is very intelligent and enjoys more complicated card games and anything challenging without words. He cannot speak or write but he is very sharp and understands what is going on around him. Rick is 6'3 and only has the ability to use his left side. Rick is able to hold his weight on both feet and is able to do pivot transfers. Rick wears a gait baelt at all times.
