He was a significant part of so many people's lives, offering caring guidance to his students and younger friends, dedicated loyalty and leadership in his work, and freely sharing his delight in the everyday pleasures of life. He was especially fond of the music of Django Reinhardt, which influenced the Gypsy swing band he founded in his 60s. I will never forget the sound of his rhythm guitar bouncing through the house when he practiced. Today I'm also thinking of the pleasure he took in good food, lovingly prepared - he wanted nothing more than one my mother's rich, subtle soups, a generous helping of soft cheese, and a cheap bottle of red wine that tasted excellent. And the way he took his fishing tackle to the little lake at the chalet and peacefully boated around for hours in the clear water. But most of all I am thinking of how Andre stepped into my life to be a father. He taught me gentleness and steadiness, the value of being present in simple details, and a zen warmth that guided much of our family's life. As Gavin told Adorno this morning, Papi's thoughts and feelings live on within us. Abbey is dealing with this slowly; she would like to hold a memorial at a later date. I will reach out to share the details when they are confirmed. We are mourning, grieving, and celebrating Andre Seguinot, born April 24 1932 in Montpellier, France.
