I am writing to introduce you to the Cognitive Therapeutics Method, a one-on-one, non-pharmacological intervention program developed for individuals with neurocognitive deficits, ranging in degree from mild cognitive impairment through moderate to severe dementia. Dr. Schipper reviewed the program during a meeting we had at the ARAC Clinic. As one of the first programs of its kind, the Cognitive Therapeutics Method is based on the results of scientific research and is consistent with the findings of the MacArthur Foundation Study of Successful Aging, which suggested that genetics are responsible for only one third of the equation with respect to development of Alzheimer=E2=80=99s disease. In this light, = the Cognitive Therapeutics Method emphasizes lifestyle changes to positively influence the aging process and promote good health. The Cognitive Therapeutics Method was developed by an interdisciplinary research team led by a neuropsychologist at Cognitive Therapeutics, the scientific division of Home Care Assistance, North America=E2=80=99s premie= r home care provider. Interventions are administered to clients on a one-to-one basis in their homes and are designed to help delay the onset of new symptoms and slow the progression of existing symptoms among individuals with cognitive deterioration, promoting increased independence and quality of life. Thus, the Cognitive Therapeutics Method offers a unique alternative to residential facilities in which there are a few staff members caring for many patients and in which services involving social stimulation and cognitive rehabilitation are limited to group activities. Providing professional care within the home allows clients to maintain their privacy and facilitates a sense of familiarity with the environment in which they are comfortable, helping them to remain independent for longer periods of time. Enclosed you will find a brochure with further information. I would enjoy meeting with you to review the program in greater detail, discuss the admission process, and demonstrate a small number of interventions. I appreciate your time and hope to meet you during the coming weeks. In the meantime, please feel free to call me directly at 514-907-5065 or email me at tt@homecareassistance.com with any questions you may have.
