Good evening,

This email is to let you know that we have 2 residents on the 2nd floor (Memory Care) who have tested positive for COVID-19.

We now meet the definition established by Public Health of a COVID outbreak and will be going into outbreak status on the 2nd floor, which will be in effect for at least the next 7 days. Updates will be provided as they become available.

Residents on Floors 1, 3, 4 and 5 are currently not affected by the outbreak and all scheduled activities, group fitness classes and dining room services (including the Continental breakfast bar) will continue.

Below are the precautions we are putting into place immediately for the 2nd floor.

RESIDENT TESTING AND ISOLATION

  *
Residents on the 2nd floor will have daily temperature and symptom checks; PSWs should report any abnormal results to the RPN immediately.
  *
Any residents on Floors 1, 3, 4 and 5 who experience any symptoms should notify the nursing staff immediately.
  * Residents with symptoms will be rapid tested, and if the RAT is positive, a PCR test will be done to confirm.
  * Residents with symptoms who test negative on a RAT will be PCR tested as a precaution, and will be placed in isolation until the PCR results are returned.
  * Isolated residents are not permitted to leave their suite except for necessary medical appointments.
  * Residents who have tested positive and have symptoms must remain in their suite for a minimum of 5 days. If their symptoms have been resolving for at least 24 hours after their isolation period, they may leave their suite but must wear a mask.
  * Any close contacts of affected residents will be monitored for 5 days.
  * Residents do not have to isolate if they are asymptomatic, but should wear a mask if possible.
  *
It is the responsibility of the POA to contact any private caregivers and notify them of the outbreak status, and any requirements or restrictions affecting care.

DINING

  *
Tray service will only be for the isolated residents on the 2nd floor; other 2nd floor residents will be served in the dining room as usual.

ACTIVITIES

  *
Residents on the Memory Care floor should not participate in scheduled activities that take place in other parts of the building, but all scheduled activities specific to the 2nd floor will continue.

IN-HOUSE SERVICES (for residents who are not in isolation)

  * The Salon will be open during the outbreak.
  * Foot care services will continue.
  *
Other services, such as massage and dental services, will continue.

VISITORS

  * All residents on the 2nd floor, including those in isolation, are permitted visits by their Essential Visitors.
  *
General Visitors may visit residents on floors that are not in outbreak, but may not visit residents on the 2nd floor, with the exception of residents who are palliative.

 MASKING AND PPE

  * Essential Visitors must utilize the PPE kits located outside the suite before entering the suite of a resident in isolation; Essential Visitors who are providing any form of care to a resident are strongly encouraged to wear a mask at all times.
  * Visitors who are health care workers must wear a mask in resident suites and common areas, and must utilize the PPE kits if providing care to a resident in isolation.
  * Masks are recommended for visitors who are not health care workers.
  * Staff providing direct care to residents in isolation must wear full PPE.
  * Universal masking is required for staff, students and volunteers providing care or services to residents not in isolation (Nursing, Food Services, Housekeeping).
  *
Administrative and non-care staff, students and volunteers are encouraged to wear a mask if their work puts them in contact with residents.

 SALES TOURS – MOVE-INS/MOVE-OUTS

  * Sales tours will continue on floors not in outbreak; visitors should wear masks throughout the tour.
  *
Move-ins/move-outs may be scheduled on floors not affected by the outbreak.

 HOUSEKEEPING PROTOCOLS

  * Enhanced environmental cleaning protocols will be in place on the 2nd floor.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions.
