Since August 2021, we have been keeping you informed, in all transparency, of developments regarding Bill 96 and its reform, which has been in place since June 1st.   It is with the same transparency that we inform you today that with the support of 3 companies we have launched a request for an injunction.   We are now awaiting a response from the Office and the Attorney General (a response in this case is simply an acknowledgement of receipt and a general intention to contest with the contact details of the lawyers) and the hearing for the injunction is set for 15 November 2022 (today).

The appeal we have filed also has two other components. We are asking the Court to invalidate the section preventing you from being represented by an external agent before the Office and to declare that the refusal by the Office to recognize the validity of my appointment as Director of Francization is illegal and unjustified. These two other aspects will be decided in the following months by the Court.

For those companies that wanted to support these efforts but were afraid of reprisals from the Office and are now wondering how they could support us (and this, without any financial obligation), you could join the action, either as a co-applicant, as a person signing an affidavit, or as an intervener. I would like to remind you that this investment by GPC is not made to improve the fate of GPC, but for that of all companies in Quebec who are facing great challenges with the particular interpretation of the law by the Office. Taking away the right of companies to be well represented by an external resource with expertise in the field, in order to better indoctrinate you and dictate your conduct, is not evidence of the Board's respect for your right to stewardship.

We need your testimonies to illustrate the extent of the situation to the judge who will be hearing the case. We must show him that the Office refuses to recognize the validity of the appointment of your Director of Francization, while imposing deadlines and obligations that are neither realistic nor applicable. In this context, uniting your voices to make your just recriminations heard is not a crime, but a duty in order to preserve your projects, your interests and paying jobs for Quebec.  It is in everyone's interest.  Your company contributes to the development of the beautiful province. The Agency and the government will have to explain and be accountable to justify their position and the legality of this provision. Of course, French in Quebec needs to be protected, but we are all aware of this and we all agree to be part of the solution.
