Update to Sunshine Centre Second Floor Update - March 20, 2026

This email is to let you know that we have 11 residents on the 2nd floor with respiratory symptoms. We have sent swabs to Public Health for testing.

We now meet the definition established by Public Health of an ARI (Acute Respiratory Infection) outbreak and have gone into outbreak status on the 2nd floor only at this point, which will most likely be in effect for at least the next 7 days.  Updates will be provided as they become available.

Residents on Floors 1, 3, 4 and 5 are currently not affected by the outbreak and all scheduled activities, group fitness classes and dining room services (including the Continental breakfast bar) will continue.

Below are the precautions we are putting into place immediately for the 2nd floor.

RESIDENT TESTING AND ISOLATION

  *   Residents on the 2nd floor will have daily temperature and symptom checks.
  *
Visitors and caregivers should report any symptoms or other health concerns they observe in a resident on any floor to the RPN immediately.
  *   Isolated residents are not permitted to leave their suite except for necessary medical appointments. If they do, we can redirect them back to their suite.
  *
All residents receiving care on the 2nd floor, whether from staff or an external caregiver, should wear a mask during the care and request that the caregiver wear a mask as well.
  *   Residents do not have to isolate if they are asymptomatic, but should wear a mask if possible, when in common areas.


DINING

  *   Residents on 2nd floor will continue to eat together, and residents in isolation will receive trays.
  *   Residents on all other floors will be served in the dining room as usual.


ACTIVITIES AND FITNESS

  *   Residents on the 2nd floor should not participate in scheduled activities that take place in other parts of the building.
  *   Residents on all other floors who are not in isolation may continue to participate in activities.
  *   The Fitness Centre will remain accessible unless the entire Sunshine Centre is in outbreak.


IN-HOUSE SERVICES (for residents who are not in isolation)

  *   The Salon will be open.
  *   Foot care services will continue.
  *   Other services, such as massage and dental services, will continue.


VISITORS

  *
All visitors and caregivers must sign in at the front desk.
  *
All residents on the 2nd floor, including those in isolation, are permitted visits by their Essential Visitors.
  *   Visits should take place in the resident�s suite, and not in common areas.  Alternately, a non-symptomatic, non-isolated resident may be taken off site for a visit.


MASKING AND PPE

  *   Essential Visitors must utilize the PPE kits located outside the suite before entering the suite of a resident in isolation.
  *
While masks are not required at this time for residents from Floors 1, 3, 4 and 5, we do encourage their use when in common areas.


COMMUNITY SEPARATION

  *
The doors between the Sunshine Centre and the Atrium building have not been closed as the outbreak is on the 2nd floor and is contained at this time.


If no additional positive cases are identified we anticipate the outbreak will be declared over on  March 26, 2026.

The health and safety of our residents remains our top priority.  We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we take these necessary precautions to protect everyone in our community. As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
