Is there a rationale for not using the 8x8 number(which is trackable, the cell phone is not)? For NY(and most regulated states) we need to make sure that any RN calls are answered immediately as we are required to have 24/7 nursing coverage. The easiest way to ensure that happens is to use the 8x8 number and have that number forwarded to on call after hours. If someone forgets to forward their cell and there is a call regarding a fall or medication or some clinical issue, this could be a problem. Or if something comes through that is an immediate need and the nurse is not available for even an hour, it could be a problem. We rotate nursing coverage every weekend to ensure we are addressing clinical needs timely.
