--000000000000ea970105eca9b364 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi Kathryn, PSW (Personal Support Worker) certification is mandatory for staffing shifts in *Long Term Care* (mandated by the ministry). There are exceptions when there is a shortage of staff; and they will take staff who are comfortable with staffing shifts - we just need to ensure proper expectation is established and approval is received from the key decision maker in writing. If the caregiver has a different certification from another State or Province, then we need to clarify. An international nurse (not designated in Canada) can be considered equivalent to PSW in Ontario. *Retirement homes* typically require Personal Care Aide (PCA) and they do not need to have PSW or equivalent certification. Schlegel Villages require stringent execution of their SOP; therefore, when in doubt please connect with the appropriate individual designated to The Village (as highlighted in the attached document) to confirm the suitability of the caregiver (document in email). Hope this helps.
