We have set up the Forum as a set of myths we = want to dispel about aging and older persons in general, older consumers and older workers.     MONDAY MAY 2- Starting at 6 pm, we invite you as our guest to a dinner = and public lecture in The Ottawa Salon (Shaw Centre), on the theme: “Capitalizing on the longevity revolution: Individuals, Business and Society”. The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister for Children, = Families and Social Development will be opening the Forum. The keynote speaker is = Dr. Alexandre Kalache, Co-president of the International Longevity Centre = Global Alliance and adviser on aging issues to the World Economic Forum. This special event will serve as a springboard for a subsequent in-depth exploration taking place the next two days, May 3rd and 4th at the University of Ottawa to re-imagine business for the ‘longevity = revolution’. Building on Dr. Kalache’s vision of active aging in an age-friendly = society, we aim to create a hub for age-friendly business innovation.   TUESDAY MAY 3 - Three panels will address the myths. Each panel will include an academic expert, a government official and a business leader. Following a presentation of key points by the panel, the invited participants will engage with the speakers and moderator in a lively discussion. Because the audience will comprise persons such as yourself, with expertise on these matters, or keen to have a better understanding, = we expect that the discussion will bring focus on major concerns, available evidence and outstanding gaps in knowledge, services, products and = policies.   WEDNESDAY MAY 4 - The Forum will launch a three-year Age Friendly = Business initiative, with the goal of helping the private sector embrace = Canada’s potential as a powerful market force. Our focus will be on how to = assist companies adapt to older consumers and older workers, as well as on = changes to public policy required to encourage and support age-friendly = practices. To begin this process, engaged participants will spend the day = developing an agenda for a three-year collaborative programme of research, knowledge synthesis and innovation leading to solution-oriented advice for the = private and public sectors.
